Republican Presidential Hopeful Buddy Roemer Holds “Town Hall Meeting” at TURBOCAM

09-Jan-2012 – Barrington, N.H. (U.S.A.) – GOP Presidential contender Buddy Roemer stopped by TURBOCAM last Friday to chat with employees during their lunch break. Roemer, a former Louisiana governor and congressman, spent about an hour shaking hands, answering questions and letting attendees know a bit about himself and his candidacy.

Charles “Buddy” Roemer III was born and raised outside Shreveport, La. Early in his career Roemer served four terms as U.S. Congressman (1981–1988) and went on to become governor in 1988, without the help of PAC money.

Not taking PAC money was the theme of Roemer’s speech. He stated many times that he “is the only candidate who doesn’t take PAC money.” That is in line with the fact that his campaign doesn’t accept anything over $100 donation.

“Washington is bought and sold by special interest groups,” said Roemer. “None of the candidates who are running can do anything on their own. They are owned.”

Roemer discussed many of the current issues, such as fighting special interests. He is committed to fighting the corrupting influences in Wall Street and Washington and ending favors to big donors.

When it comes to the environment, his stand is very clear. Roemer believes that any energy policy must begin with using resources at home safely and efficiently, reducing dependence on foreign oil, and creating jobs here in America.

Roemer believes that military preparedness is paramount to maintaining America’s role in the world, and ensuring that America has the most advanced technology and best trained troops to be ready for any situation that might necessitate their involvement. But when it comes to Afghanistan, he said, “We should leave the country, but we shouldn’t put a timetable on it.”

With the primary right around the corner, Roemer was asked how he felt about what the polls were saying. “I love the recent polls that put me ahead of Rick Perry and three other guys,” he laughed. “And I haven’t even spent a dime and they’ve spent millions! This campaign isn’t about issues; it isn’t about you; it’s about them and it’s about money!”
