TURBOCAM Is a Recovery Friendly Workplace

06-Mar-2018 – Barrington, N.H. (U.S.A.) – TURBOCAM International (TURBOCAM) has joined with about 15 other New Hampshire companies to become early adopters of the “Recovery Friendly Workplace Initiative” (Initiative) led by Governor Chris Sununu. The Initiative promotes individual wellness for Granite Stater’s by empowering workplaces to provide support for people recovering from substance use disorder. With the right training and resources, workplaces can help prevent substance misuse and support their employees’ recovery.Employees at TURBOCAM International

According to New Futures, a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization that advocates, educates, and collaborates to improve the health and wellness of all New Hampshire residents, “Drug and alcohol abuse cost New Hampshire $2.36 billion in 2014 in lost productivity, health care, and strains to the criminal justice system.” Part of that loss is in the number of candidates from which to choose.

“New Hampshire and the surrounding states have a huge workforce,” said Pete Hanson, TURBOCAM Director of Talent Development, “but because of substance misuse, there are thousands of people who are potentially unemployable. Our goal is to support those in recovery and try to get them and keep them employed. A job provides structure and is a critical piece of a recovery program. Knowing that, we want to do our part as one of the largest employers in the area.”

Recovery Friendly WorkplaceRecovery Friendly Workplaces:

  1. Demonstrate a commitment to creating a recovery-friendly environment
  2. Promote a culture that challenges the stereotypes associated with substance use disorder
  3. Enhance workplace safety while improving productivity and profitability by addressing behavioral health issues "head-on"

“TURBOCAM was asked to be an early adopter for the Governor’s initiative because in a lot of ways we were already meeting the requirements of the program based on our work with Chris Placy and his group Substance Free Workplace,” said Hanson. “Through Chris, we have decided to take a proactive ‘health and safety’ approach to this epidemic. Chris is a member of the Governor’s Advisory Committee on the Initiative and has been invaluable to us. In addition, Governor Sununu has really shown to be forward thinker when it comes to employer needs and those in recovery. We applaud him for that.”

In a recent press release, Governor Sununu said, “This initiative will help businesses attain greater safety, productivity, and profitability by addressing addiction ‘head on’ in the workplace.” Read press release.
